Dance Performances Help Develop Life Skills
A dance performance is usually a school’s goal for that semester or year. It’s what everyone is ultimately working towards and good schools recognize this as an important part of their development as a dancer and a person.
We all have goals that we need to aim for. Without a dance performance to look forward to, all those dance steps and hours of learning routines seems rather pointless. In fact, learning to work to schedule for an upcoming dance performance can be exhilarating for some children.
Your child will be more focused. When they have something like a performance to look forward too, they will be more likely to concentrate on the necessary skills they need to learn. It will also allow them to see the big picture and understand what all the dance skills they are learning mean. Learning how to be focused will help your child to stay on task and get more things done in their everyday life.
Discipline is difficult to teach young people, it’s something everyone really needs to learn through experience. That first performance teaches young students a lot about themselves. Maybe they didn’t work hard enough, maybe they got it perfect and learn the taste of success. One thing is for sure, though. That is that everyone will have a lot of fun.
As your child learns more dance skills they will become more self confident. When they participate in a dance performance and feel the joy of success they will increase their self confidence. Self confidence will help them to accomplish more in life. It will also allow them to develop their own personality.
The ability to work with others is an important life skill and one that participating in a performance teaches your child. A dance performance is a community effort in that everyone has a special part and without them the performance would be incomplete. This means that everyone must work together for a common goal. The success of the performance gives every performer a sense of accomplishment and knowledge that they have all been part of the triumphant performance.
Performances allow your child to interact with family members. It is a great sense of pride for other family members when one of the family is involved in a dance performance. They all try to attend and encourage the family member with their dancing. Family involvement and interaction is the strong foundation of a happy child.
Ultimately, a performance does belong to the dance students. But lots of work goes on behind the scenes and the performance night allows these people to share in the limelight. For kids, it’s always a huge learning experience and something they tend to remember the rest of their life. For the family, it’s a time to support someone they care about, as well as a chance to get together.
